A personal tribute

Yesterday I read about death of Pran Kumar. He is known as the creator of character "Chacha Chaudhary" (CC, now onwards) and his comic book series.

In my childhood days, comic books of CC were considered a huge asset and we friends used to share these books with great enthusiasm and curiosity. After we completed reading the stories, we discussed about them.

In retrospect, surely those books are not great addition to Indian literature. Rather I might criticize them now as lacking quality content. However, I must admit that these colorful books surely added to my reading habit and persistence to finish books one after the other.
Reading gives great pleasure. But for the pleasure to realize, one must have persistence to read and complete a book. CC books by Pran have surely contributed to my persistence reading habit.

Not everybody is privileged to have an exposure to great books for children. I think I was not privileged, but was not under-nourished either. CC books were amongst the first books that I could get hold of and found them interesting.

Pu La Deshpande has said in one of his books that when anybody asks him what to read, he recommends to start reading with whatever one may find and like. There are no hard rules for reading. I had access to CC books and I loved reading those in my childhood days, hence this personal tribute to Mr Pran Kumar.
